The Sagkeeng First Nation and the Friends of the Games committee welcome you to the Sagkeeng Indigenous Summer Games. This gathering is more than just a celebration of sport; it is a testament to our resilience, culture, and the unity that binds our communities together.

These games represent the spirit of our ancestors, who taught us the importance of strength, and respect. As a child, I remember other First Nations coming to Sagkeeng and participating in sports in our community. The games we now plan for our youth revive the traditions that our communities enjoyed and will continue for future generations.

We encourage the participants to have fun and continue their determination to compete. We thank all the volunteers, communities, athletes’ coaches, and refs for their continued support. The Sagkeeng Friends of the Games appreciate your attendance at this event as these games bring past and present memories and create new ones together.

Welcome to Sagkeeng enjoy your week visiting and making new friends.

Aniin, Tansi, Boozhoo, Welcome

I started working with youth at Black River back in 1996. Every time I see kids playing sports I think back to those games that we attended back then. We travelled to Peguis, Opaskwayak Cree Nation, Cross Lake Cree Nation, Brandon.  Most of our kids got to play. Families would come out to watch. Parents brothers sisters - everybody cheering them on.

Sadly, some of those kids are no longer with us.

These Games aren't just about sports. They're about giving our youth something to dream for something to shoot for. Young people need something to look forward to. They need to feel that support and know their community believes in them.

When I see youth participating in sports today I see hope. I see them finding strength building confidence, self-esteem, and making connections that will carry them through life. These Games are about families coming together communities supporting each other and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

These Games belong to our youth. This is their time to shine. And we're ready to cheer them on.
